Like many have mentioned, looking back on the good memories helps us. I took this fine photo on June 3, 2007, in front of our building. Mama had let Duncan have the leash, so much so that he must have pulled all of it out of the handle! I can guarantee that once she got down the steps, she reeled him in so that he was a safe distance from the curb and our busy, busy street.
Don't they both look grand?

Dear Lynette,
You don't know me -- but I've been following your blog for a couple of years now. I don't know how I found it, but when I did, I made sure to add it to my favorites, because I love your photos of Portland and because my name is also Lynette and I also have a dachshund -- well, actually 4 dachshunds. I lost my mother in 2004 when she was 86 years old and I went through the same sadness watching her decline that you are going through now.
I am so very sorry to hear that it was Duncan's time to go. I said good-bye to one of my fur kids last October. My Ziggy was 15 years old. He was a black and tan dachshund with many health problems; it's never easy to say good-bye to those we love, is it?
Please know that I am thinking about you during this sad time.

Thank you so much, Lynette, from both Mama and me. We really appreciate your kind thoughts and your sharing with us about your little buddies. And you're so right--it's never easy.
