Seen on the TriMet 20 bus, heading west on West Burnside

Hats came out on a sunny day in Portland, Saturday, July 7. At first there was just the man in front of me with the hat. The bus stopped. The other man with the hat got on, followed by the woman with the hat. Had to take a photo.
 

I guess she couldn't see well enough without propping up the brim of her hat. Had to take another photo.

Cast Iron Colonnade in Skidmore/Old Town

The Saturday that I rode the MAX to shop at the Dress Barn, I took this photo from the window. As I looked at it closely, deciding if/where to crop it, I noticed that gaggle of guys to the left beside the lamp post. Immediately I wondered, "Just what are the three of them looking at the one on his knees doing?" Then I noticed the women looking over their right shoulders towards the guys. Surely those two women are wondering, "Just what are they doing over there?"

The canopies which you see between the arches are a small bit of the western most part of the Saturday/Sunday Market. And that's an even tinier bit of the crowd out on a sunny day!


I love that guy's black and gray checkerboard shirt and pants! Now that I look at the photo again, I'm wondering, "Is the man in navy blue angry, or did I catch him at the moment of pushing his glasses up on his nose which made him look angry?" So I've cropped it closer. What do you think? Is he on one of those hands' free phones?

I found this information, and lots more about the area here, to share with you: In 1984 a colonnade consisting of cast-iron components salvaged from the North Wing of the New Market Theater by the Portland Friends of Cast Iron Architecture was erected on the site of the original building.

On the street, July 24, 2010, a lavender umbrella and a breeze

Sunny, breezy morning. As the woman waits to cross West Burnside at NW 21st Avenue, the breeze swirls around her head, lifts strands of her hair. The lavender umbrella makes a bit of shade, enough to satisfy her. Is she worried that her umbrella will be blown inside out?


She crosses the street and continues south on SW 21st Avenue, every glistening hair in place, no evidence of the breeze left behind. Intact, the umbrella still functions.

Last Saturday I'd almost made it to Kenny and Zuke's when I spied these three walkers. Since I've not yet become brave enough to ask if people will allow me to photograph them, I acted like I was photographing the #15 bus! Wait. Is that the clucking of chickens I hear in the background? Yep. But it's a good photo of the bus, don't you think?


They passed me, and I got this one, too. I like their casual style, just right for a Portland sunny day, complimented by cool breezes.
