Neons are in! Street level matching colors, No. 6

Here's a map for you. I hope it will enhance your enjoyment of today's post, as well as those on the upcoming days. We'll start with Powell's Books, on the northwest corner, and then go counterclockwise from there.



First up, a man in bright red-orange shoes, wearing an orange jacket. He is walking north across West Burnside at the intersection of SW 10th (behind him) and NW 10th (in front of him). You see, Burnside, whether it be West Burnside or East Burnside, divides Portland into its northern and southern sections.

There's a good chance that he's going to Powell's Books which is on the corner he's headed toward. The red post and railing is in front of the store's main entrance. Powell's Books takes up that entire downtown Portland city block.

There's an orange sign on a pole just beyond the woman who has turned to look south, towards me. Although I can't quite read it when I click on the original size, I can see that there is the logo of the Portland Streetcar. Up the street to the north on the man's right, there appears to be a sign on a building which is red and orange.

Seen through the plate glass window of the Goodwill Store on West Burnside

Here's another photo that I took last Saturday when I was out and about. On the way back from getting my flu shot, I decided to branch out and ride the MAX Yellow Line, then the Portland Streetcar, then the 20 bus. After I got off the bus to walk to our apartment, I passed the first ever Goodwill Store I visited in Portland--back when Mama and I came to see the guys back in the summer of 2004--and now I live so close to it that I walk by each weekday on the way home.

Earlier in the week I had noticed these shoes, so you know how excited I was to see them again on Saturday! And to make things even better, I walked right in and found some paperback books that we haven't read yet, so I bought them and stuffed them into my Goodwill-purchased red Kate Spade handbag. I'm loving living in Portland!

Oh, OK. Here's what Wikipedia has to say: Mannequin comes from the French word mannequin, which had acquired the meaning "an artist's jointed model", which in turn came from the Middle Dutch word mannekijn, meaning little man, figurine.

Paradoxical Footwear

Merriam-Webster Online defines paradox at "a tenet contrary to received opinion." To me, the raindrops represent the received opinion in this photo--February in Portland can be rainy. The brown boots also represent the received opinion--February in Portland can be cold. The black flats with the gold emblem are the contrary tenet.

I know I couldn't go out with my feet that naked. I don't believe I could have done it even when I was much younger, which you can tell by the feet that the person wearing the black flats is, a young woman. Not that I'd wear the boots, either--I don't think they'd go up over my calves. Back in the day, maybe, but not now.

Fabulous look.

It was Valentine's Day, and I'd finished my first PCPA tour guide training. I walked to Pioneer Courthouse Square to catch a MAX train to a bus stop where I could catch the 15 for home. Naturally, I had my camera with me. And am I glad--look at these shoes! They caught my eye first, then the outfit's colors, and then the outfit itself. So, I'm thrilled that I got the entire cool girl in this photo. Thrilled.

I'm thinking she's talking to her Valentine on the cell phone. What do you think?
