Lots of time as I walk east along this block on West Burnside, headed from Powell's Books usually so that I can catch a 12 or 19 bus at SW 6th Avenue, I've noticed the reflections that appear on the polished stone exterior of this building to my right. This time I had my camera around my neck and decided to take a photo. I wasn't quick enough to catch that pedestrian headed my way before the metal post obliterated our view of anything other than the bags on each shoulder, arms and hands, a tidbit of blue-jean-enclosed right thigh, knee and calf. Turned out OK, though. This is straight-out-of-the-camera. Should I have enhanced in some way at PicMonkey?

Sunshine and blue skies

Close crop of a bit of serendipity--the man's sunglasses reflects the blue sky (see next photo). A bit more serendipity, how the reflected color matches the glowing hair around Jerry Garcia's head. And the last bit of serendipity--how that other man's head almost completely pops out of the guy's dreadlocks, as if he were a two-headed man, current on the right, future on the left. Love it!

You know, I could have taken the time to clone a few of those dreads to completely cover that older dude's shirt, making it look even more like we were looking at a two-headed man. But I decided to only crop and straighten. I'll leave cloningfor another day.

I'm riding on the MAX train on the right, the red and white one you can see curving to the left. I love how these two tracks lead to a gentle 400-foot serpentine when two trains meet along NW Hoyt and NW 3rd Avenue, on the west end of the Steel Bridge.

I can't tell from the reflections exactly what one could win if one entered whatever--surely it's not crab legs. Nor can I tell what sort of bottles of beer appear.

Two Portland Skyline Photos

I took these photos last Thursday, Dec. 4, right after I got to my building. The sun reflected in that brightest spot sent rays of light clean across the Willamette River into the windows of my building! All the way from the windows, through an opening between two pods of cubicles, through an open door and onto the office wall, a glowing rectangle to the right of the door that opens from our Front Office into the hallway that leads to the elevators. Amazing!



Vacation returns soon, once I've rested up some more from my busy, busy Sunday!

Reflections in John Helmer's front window, downtown Portland

I stay continually fascinated by their display windows.

A closer look at the sunrise reflected on the buildings on Jan. 21, 2009

I am pleased that I was able to get this shot that realistically portrays the sunrise colors reflected on the buildings.

Up Against It

Since Friday evening, I have been up against it, ill with fever, chills that jerked my hands, arms and legs, aches. The doctor diagnosed a urinary tract infection, once I felt like I could drive myself to his office Tuesday morning; my children were hiking and camping in the Mt. Hood area, as you can see if you scroll down to my Tuesday, Sept. 16, post. I am not back to normal, but I do feel like putting something on the blog--I have taken my last big white antibiotic tablet, but I don't think I feel as if I'm making much of a move away from it, as far as the fever is concerned for sure. I plan to call the doctor back tomorrow to seek a follow-up test and maybe a prescription refill.

Rest assured, I haven't felt good enough to feel guilty about missing these days of blogging, but in my heart of hearts, I have missed it deeply, which includes most of all visiting your wonderful blogs.

I haven't even turned on my camera--that's how bad it's been. I took these photos the same day I took the ones of the crane, either through my sunglasses or not. I posted them on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Upon reflection I realize that, before long, I will be far away from it and back in the swing of things.

Curves, Reflections and Glass

Reflections in windows often make for nice photographs. I particularly like this one of a curved window and the arched overhang. I also like the glass blocks that make up part of the wall beneath the window.
